On Day 2 of Dreamhack Montreal, we had TRUE play his Ro16 match and potentially a Ro8 match.
In the Ro16, TRUE faced off against the french Protoss DnS. In a simple Bo5, our defending Dreamhack Montreal Champion was able to win in without dropping a match on Odyssey, Abyssal Reef and Interloper. Despite it being on a B stream, the relatively short series was casted by a few of the community streamers and was still entertaining. In game 2, TRUE did an odd 3 base 8 queen +1 melee timing attack. With standard 3 bases, TRUE continually made queens while saturating his third, all while getting +1 and overlord speed. Once he hit 8 queens, he flew to Dns’s base with a massive ling army and was able to force the french player out of the map.
His next opponent in the Ro8 would be an ever tougher challenge; Nerchio. Thanks to some practice games with Serral and some quick research, TRUE felt ready to face off against the polish titan. With some cheeses sprinkled in and some cheeky runbys to round it all up, our korean zerg was able to take the 3-1 despite being the underdog. He was able to take the first two games on Odyssey and Mech Depot with a quick early pool build and some transitional mutas that caught his opponent off guard. In the third match, Nerchio was able to transition to roaches a little early after surviving the ling/bling stage. This gave him the opportunity to defend against TRUE’s runbys much easier and was able to deflect a massive roach counterattack which gave him the win. On Ascension to Aiur, TRUE was able to demonstrate his early game prowess. Thanks to some very annoying ling runbys and floods, TRUE was able to eek out the win in the early stages of the game. Nerchio lost focus and was overwhelmed by the multi-pronged attacks TRUE kept throwing at him. He was forced to tap out once TRUE was on top of every single of his three bases with lings and banelings.
TRUE will now have to face against the powerhouse Neeb in the hopes of advancing to the finals where he can defend his DH Montreal Championship.
TRUE’s victories were not the only highlight of the day, after long talks, we were able to find an agreement for a partnership with GuardLab, an innovator of mouthguard technology. With this partnership, GuardLab hopes to break into the e-sport scene and provide mouthguard to athletes in the hope of preventing wear caused by stress (grinding teeth, clenching your jaw muscles, etc.). You can read their full press release by following this link : GUARDLAB PRESS RELEASE
We are very excited to see what this partnership can bring and we are looking forward to working with GuardLab!
