first ever garageLAN for in house tournament

Celebrating the owner Freeedom’s birthday on Saturday, it was decided to have his car enthusiast friends over and have some Starcraft action – all in the same event.

So intense flew in from California to meet with the local-to-DC crew, including pro players EndOfLine and MygraiN.

The tournament finished at around 2am with MygraiN taking 1st and intense 2nd while EndOfLine taking 3rd. See the bracket here.

Here are some pictures of the event from different sources on Facebook.

team rankings challenge is on

last season, EnDerr won both North America and Korea Starcraft ladder challenges being top on the team in rankings. It’s a new season and a new challenge.

Who will it next? Could it be intense? noRegret? MygraiN? EndOfLine? Cirrus? hell even the owner, Freeedom?

View current season rankings for NA here (KR coming soon): psistorm.com/main/team-rankings

So far 12 players are ranked in ladder out of 35 in our team, including casual clan members.

Cirrus (Terran) joins the team

we got a Terran! we’ve added GM player Aaron “Cirrus” Russell to our team. He is from Oregon, USA and is very active on ladder. Follow him @CirrusSC2.

“I’m very much looking forward to being part of an active NA team again! I’ve known EndOfLine for a long time, and the rest of the roster seems full of excellent players who also seem like really cool people.”, said Aaron.

We got our first Canadian, NoRegreT

We recently saw Jake “NoRegreT” Umpleby going to the semis vs Scarlett/Huk in Archon mode, where he teamed up with Bioice in RedBull in Toronto, Canada. He is a GM zerg with an ultra aggressive style and is looking to make a splash in the scene.

“I’m very pleased to join PSISTORM, The practice regiment and environment should be super beneficial for me as a player. im sure ill have noregrets about joining PSISTORM.”, says NoRegreT.

Kam’s Heroes 24 hour stream

kam
Kam is doing a 24 hour stream at 10pm Pacific/12 midnight CST/1am Eastern for Heroes Of The Storm.  He is the manager of our team.

Here’s his stream: http://www.twitch.tv/kamheroes.

Who is Kam?
As an avid gamer, student, and co-manager of the team, I spend most of my free time on Heroes of the Storm where I play, watch tournaments, and play ranked matches. I have been playing Heroes of the Storm since April 2014 after a short stint in League of Legends. I’ve had previous experience in mostly MMO’s before settling into the MOBA scene to play, analyze, and improve performance of the team. I am also is going for a Bachelors in Management Information Systems.
What is the stream for?
The stream is to promote the release of Heroes of the Storm on June 2nd where players are called to the Nexus to fight on teams and become heroes in their own right and PSIstorm Gaming. This stream isn’t to just promote competitive play, but to show how to work with a team to accomplish tasks, even as a new player.
What are my goals?

My goals are to help build upon the Heroes of the Storm community and get more people excited about playing. As a veteran player, I want to continue to build my knowledge of the game’s mechanics, but also help new players learn about how the game works, strategies to win team fights, and how to play each hero. Another goal is to promote my team, PSIstorm Gaming, to show that I don’t just manage the team, but work to continue the team’s progression to high quality support.

What is my schedule?

Usual streaming schedule:
• Monday-Friday: 6-9pm CST (or whenever my team is not doing practice)
• Saturday-Sunday: 9-5pm (Unless Heroes tourney is going on then I will be hosting them)

we got a Random player! welcome Ares

Grant “Ares” Riew, a Grand Master Random player has joined the Academy team for PSISTORM Gaming. Just like his Starcraft prowess being able to compete at a high level in all the races, Ares has well rounded interests outside of the game. He is from Missouri, will be going to Harvard University in the fall. He is an avid tennis player and a cellist for National Youth Orchestra of the USA.

“I’m super excited to be a part of this awesome team – everyone seems super nice and you all better get ready for some random action :D”, says Ares.

announcing the team captain for Starcraft II

Erik “EndOfLine” Faden is officially announced as the team captain for the Starcraft II team of PSISTORM Gaming. Erik who is a GM zerg who plays an innovative style, was nominated and voted on by the players. He has shown a great deal of leadership, and willingness to provide his time by practicing with the members, encouragement, and even providing mental and physical coaching tips.

Erik is a physical trainer, and has a long history with mixed martial arts. He is also an avid brewer of beer, often seen drinking from his tall schooner of concoctions while streaming. He also recently just got married and returned from his honeymoon saying he missed playing Starcraft. All this experience makes for a perfect combination of life and competition knowledge for the younger talents.

“I am very honored by the nomination!! Makes me happy to play with you all and call you my team mates”, Erik said to his teammates as it was announced in the team private Skype chat.

Announcing the PSISTORM Gaming Heroes of the Storm Teams!

heroes of the storm

Everyone here at PSISTORM Gaming is incredibly pleased to announce that we have added three Amateur Heroes of the Storm teams to our roster.  One is a North American team, and the other two are based in the Philippines.

For North America, we have joined forces with the team formerly operating as Shattered Gaming.  This group had the distinction of placing second in the Team Liquid Open #1.  They will now be playing under the PSISTORM banner, with a team consisting of:

  • Alucio
  • Chrisylo
  • thekaratekid
  • vitaletum
  • Kotank
  • SteelReign (acting as sub)

This team will be supported by the awesome staff of:

  • ElectricEra
  • Kam
  • Fenom

For the Philippines we are doing things a little bit differently, with players coming together from a few different teams.  We will be splitting them into two teams, which we are (for now, at least) referring to as PSISTORM Templar:

  • Cerebro
  • forgetfulzee
  • Myria
  • Yuusha
  • Messiah

and PSISTORM Reaver:

  • Harkas
  • Gakkai
  • Bonat
  • csura
  • BartyBART
  • Zadkiel (acting as sub)

PSISTORM GAMING In House Tourney & LAN

by Freeedom

Two weeks ago 2 of the GM players we have in the East Coast (DC/MD/VA) decided to get together to watch WCS and maybe play a few games.  Then we thought, why not have an in house tourney as well?  So “in house” had a double meaning for us, like actually at a house, and PSISTORM Gaming members as well. I volunteered my house, and spent the morning cleaning up and preparing, after I got home at noon from a car meet I was organizing.

IMG_1032

Setting up the LAN took a while, my hard password didn’t help, and had some weird issues with the router.

IMG_1025

food preparation wasn’t hard, here you can see salmon being prep’d.

ok all set

IMG_1033

MygraiN was the first to arrive and warmed up on ladder

IMG_1035 IMG_1036 IMG_1037

Even though there were only a few of us, getting set up wasn’t easy.  So many technical issues at first. Things you don’t think of happen

. IMG_1041

At least EndOfLine brought his home brew.

IMG_1045

And with that we were set to play

IMG_1046

Brackets set, things seem to be working now.  Internet was a bit slow due to a quick thunderstorm causing interference?

IMG_1043

We had WCS in the big screen (70 inch) while we played

. feardragon_intense

We got lucky as the popular caster feardragon64 agreed to cast it, and some of our players on the West Coast like intense and filthyrake joined in to co-cast. webcam_shots

victory

a few victories, and a long day but we didn’t even finish the tourney, it ran well into 2am! We did start late though.

Things we learned (probably obvious to some of you but we still made these rookie mistakes):

1. start on time, be strict with games starting right away

2. get a game admin and have rules on checking in, reporting results, and communication

3. avoid switching peripherals and settings around, make sure players bring their own gear, and add extra time for setting up

4. do some internet testing before hand, make the net password easy to set up, basically do what you can to do this an hour or so before the matches This was a test run for a possible BASEMENT LAN TOURNEY at my house, not dissimilar to TakeTv’s HomeStoryCup.  But we want to do one for NA.

The tourney is not done, but an update:

DemiLove 2-1 over MygraiN, and now EnDerr vs DemiLove for semis.  We hope to cast the finals later.

here are the VODs from twitch before they get deleted, I suppose I need to get them:
