True wins Cheesadelphia, RuFF gets 3rd/4th!

True and RuFF take 1st and 3rd/4th at Cheesadelphia Summer 2016 LAN in Philadelphia, PA this past weekend.  The largest of the 3 so far, Cheesadelphia had 54 participants, and several NA pros competing.  The top 16 went to the playoffs on day 2.  2 went on to place, with RuFF taking 3rd/4th and True winning the whole tournament.

RuFF was a crowd favorite and had his signature unorthodox style, and was happy with his results. “I didn’t expect to do this well especially after being at risk of not making the top 16.   So I’m happy”, said Jesse “RuFF” Hall.PSICheese3 0019WM

True was happy to win but being competitive he said that his mind was more preoccupied with his loss to Innovation in the Shoutcraft KoTH match earlier that day.

PengWin joins as player manager

PSISTORM Gaming has signed Stefan “PengWin” Mott as player manager for it’s Starcraft 2 in both Pro and Academy divisions.  PengWin managed players with mYinsanity for several years, and even played competitively for them as Zerg.

“PengWin has sold us on his strategy of how to improve team practices, chemistry, involvement and ultimately performance for our players. He has learned a lot from his time at mYinsanity and Korean teams and is eager to help push our team to the next level.  He will be staying in the team house and there he’ll be working closely with TRUE and all the other players that spend time there.  He’ll also enact some changes to how we do the day to day activities.”, said KJ “Freeedom“.

Damen adds, “I’m incredibly excited to have PengWin join the organization.  It is my belief and hope that he will help drive our team to the next level.”

While still finishing up business in Switzerland, he’ll be traveling to the United States next month.

Today we have an interview with NoRegreT who is a professional Starcraft II player for PSISTORM Gaming. NoRegreT moved out to Korea to practice in the MVP teamhouse. He participated in the GSL and SSL qualifiers, missing out on SSL after defeating Soulkey and Armani Before falling to Trap and Hush. In GSL he beat Dragon and MarineKing. Sadly losing to Stats in two separate BO3s, 4-1 in total.

What were the main reasons for you to go and stay in Korea? Was it just for Stacraft or did you have other motives?

Missed it

Since arriving in Korea what has been your favourite part of your stay?

My favourite part of my stay is the ability to look around me and see new strategies and new inspiration to adapt my playstyle in starcraft.

How do you feel about your qualifier results, getting so close then just not making it must have been hard?

My results weren’t disappointing I had only been in Korea for a short period of time before the qualifiers and played decently well.

What do you miss most while in Korea?

I don’t particularly miss anything besides my friends and family.

Do you practice often with the MVP players? If so what is it like?

Practice is basically everyday at least 1 game per player.

What are the main differences in practice from when you were at home to now in Korea?

The main differences are that I practice more and it’s a lot more efficient.

We have seen some Vlogs from you while in Korea, do you have any more planned soon?

6: I had vlogs planned but i lost my camera so i don’t really have a way to record them.

Roughly how long are you planning on spending in Korea?

You have been doing really well in Korea GM, what was your peak rank?

My peak rank was top 16 average around rank 28.

NoRegret has no plans to leave Korea any time soon and streams regularly on www.Twitch.tv/Noregret_ I recommend you check it out for top level zerg play, lots of NA jokes and inside knowledge about MVP and Proleague if you are lucky.

TRUE is coming to the US to compete in WCS

After 9 months of effort, TRUE’s visa to the US has been approved! It’s a P1 (pro athlete) visa for a period starting June 19th. On the June 21st he will be in Germany competing in HomeStory Cup, and on the 27th will be headed to the United States to stay in the team house in Virginia.

Although it had been his dream to compete in the United States he had almost given up, and took some time off from Starcraft. Recently however, he came back with a vengeance competing in GSL, where he made Code A, and then also went on to win his match vs CJ Entus Bunny to make it to the most prestigious league in the world: GSL Code S.

With his visa approval he will be forfeiting his Code S spot, as he can’t physically be there to play his match in Korea. It was a hard choice he had to make, but his ultimate goal in 2016 was to get to the US to play in Blizzard’s World Championship Series.

Starting very late in season 3, he needs to quickly accumulate enough points to make the top 16 for the penultimate event of Starcraft: Blizzcon at Anaheim in November. Getting to the US is the start he’s been waiting on and PSISTORM Gaming is happy for him.

EnDerr qualifies for DreamHack Valencia

Our Zerg from the Philippines won the qualifier between the regions of Oceania (New Zealand/Australia), South East Asia and Japan, and gets travel, accommodation and entrance fully paid to DreamHack Valencia.  Known as “the world’s largest digital festival”, DreamHack features many eSports titles for world competition, with Starcraft II prize pool of $50,000.

When asked about the reaction to him winning by being so aggressive: “I am happy to win, although the opponents didn’t like the playstyle I was doing, i’m glad it turned out in favor fo me”, said EnDerr.

The event is in Valencia, Spain where he will compete against the best of the world.  So far the qualified players from other regions are:

Format: BO3 until semi-finals. BO5 for semi-finals and finals. Each team vetoes one map until there is one map remaining, which will be the starting map. From then on, loser picks map.

Misc:

  • If you cannot contact your opponents for 10 minutes, please notify an admin.
  • Breaks in between games (in a series) may last no longer than 5 minutes
  • If a player drops, the game must be recovered 10 seconds before the drop
  • If a player pauses, they must state the reason, and approximate time table for the pause (no longer than 3 minutes). The person must ask if all players are ready and receive responses from all players before resuming.
  • Please report your scores on challonge after the match. For any conflicts, please contact an admin.

 

Laddering during the tournament: Teams are allowed to ladder during the tournament in order to practice and warm up, but if the opposing team is ready to play, they must leave the game immediately in order to expedite the tournament process. Players who fail to return within 3 minutes of being messaged in a match will be disqualified.

 

Cheating/Mannerisms: No stream cheating or hacking is allowed. If players are caught cheating, they will be immediately disqualified from the tournament and forever shunned and ostracized from the starcraft community!  Please be mannered in your play. The only typing that may go on during the game (aside from ally chat), is GLHF at the start, or GG (WP, etc) at the end.

PiLiPiLi wins PSISTORMCup 2

Pavel “PiLiPiLi” Pilipenko won the tournament last Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Creature.  He takes home $500 prize and a DX Racer chair.  The LAN had 42 participants and finished right around 8pm.

The tournament began with 6 rounds of matches in Swiss format.  Then the top 8 based on record advanced to the playoffs.  Traveling from San Diego, California the 20 year old had dropped only 1 map the whole day in a dominating performance.

According to Freeedom and The Cave where the LAN is held, based on the success of this PSISTORMCup 2, there will be a 3rd tournament in 3-4 months.

TRUE vs Bunny GSL match review

TRUE vs Bunny Review

On day 1 of the GSL Code A we saw PSISTORM Gaming’s TRUE come back from 0-2 Deficit to beat CJ Entus Bunny in the BO5 for a place in GSL Code S. Now we will analyse how TRUE fell behind, and more importantly how he came back when the odds were firmly against him to be able to snatch a code S spot from Bunny.

Coming into the match, the general consensus was that Bunny was the favourite. With his team being able to provide KESPA level practice more easily. I predicted a 3-2 victory from TRUE in my preview whilst TL predicted a 3-1 victory for Bunny and Artosis also siding with Bunny for a 3-2 win. TRUE has been vocal about his lack of confidence in ZvT both on his personal stream and it was mentioned in the cast that he was doubting his chances just before the match started.

On game 1 TRUE opened with a 1 base cheese, using overlord drop, ling bane to try and take an early lead in the series whilst Bunny opted for a reaper expand into reactor marines. Bunny was able to finish making his bunker, causing TRUE’s initial baneling attack to be ineffective and Bunny’s units to be safe. As a result, TRUE felt he needed to regroup and get another drop into Bunny’s main to recover, but the slow overlord was shut down by the additional marines. This meant the rush was over. TRUE attempted to transition into a standard game, but Bunny was able to push out with a 1 base hellbat, marine and medivac push. This push was too powerful for TRUE and he was forced to GG.

Heading into game 2 it seemed likely that TRUE would fall back to a more standard game. Most expecting to see his infamous ling bane style, however once the two base spire was out it was clear that TRUE had something else in mind. Before TRUE’s spire was even finished he had placed double evolution chamber and roach warren down. It has to be said, Spire rushing followed by roach tech is not a strategy employed by many.

Bunny matched TRUE’s base count with both players on a 3 base economy, the emphasis was on the Zerg player to do damage or fall behind. TRUE only made five mutalisks, with only three making it to Bunny’s base. This muta rush failed in dealing any significant damage towards Bunny, leaving TRUE at an economic disadvantage and his own build path forcing him to transition into a roach ravager composition. Roach ravager on even bases vs upgraded bio wasn’t much of a fair fight, Bunny crushed TRUE’s army just as his first ultralisks popped. Despite the best efforts of the Ultras, TRUE had to GG once they eventually died.

Heading into game 3 on King Sejong Station TRUE decided to go for a 3 base ling bane bust as Bunny moves out with a double medivac drop. The timing helps the PSISTORM gaming zerg to bust down the front door and force a lift on the natural base.

After some time, Bunny is able to eventually retake his natural and rebuild the wall. Both players follow up with harass as TRUE baneling drops and Bunny pressures with medivac drops, both killing a similar amounts of workers. However, TRUE gained the overall worker lead.

TRUE follows with two additional baneling drops, amassing twenty-eight worker kills and checkmating Bunny. TRUE quickly follows up with another ling bane attacking which rolls over Bunny, GG is called and its 2-1 to Bunny with TRUE still having a long way to go.

Game four was on Frost, with the players spawning in close horizontal locations, the game started as most ZvT’s do. The first real decision coming from Bunny as he decides to go for a 6 hellbat plus marine medivac push. TRUE was able to catch four of the hellions as they moved across the map before they could be transformed into hellbats. TRUE was able to make enough banelings and queens to hold the push with relative ease as Bunny made a number of small micro mistakes and the attack was cleaned up before a single drone could be killed. This left Bunny at a disadvantage going forward. Those kinds of attacks need to do damage to the zerg economy to be worthwhile.

Following the failed hellbat push momentum was firmly on TRUE’s side, he uses this momentum to go for another baneling bust. Cancelling the third base and breaking the depot wall outside the natural. TRUE doesn’t let up with the aggression as he prepares another baneling bust, this time breaking through with enough units and with SCV pulled off the line quickly followed by another GG from Bunny. This match made it 2-2 in the series where everything came down to the final map.

The last game of the series is on Lerilak Crest, a four player map no longer on the ladder. The players spawn across from it each other, with the longest rush distance. TRUE again will be the aggressor this game and goes for an early lair. The early lair is to allow for his Nydus attack. As he places the nydus perfectly in the fog of war in Bunny’s base he is still unaware of the incoming attack. As the lings and Queens spill from the nydus, Bunny pulls his SCV’s to defend, as he does this his reactor starport finishes building two medivacs which save the marines and allow bunny to push back the attack and put TRUE behind.

TRUE follows up with yet another nydus attack, in the same location which is in full view of Bunny, he loads the nydus with queens at the beginning so they can transfuse the worm and allow the rest of the units to make it out. This time TRUE has banelings and lings, which allows him to punish the SCV pull and poor spread of bunny. The Zerg player is able to kill fifteen workers and give himself an eight worker lead. Following this attack bunny moves out to deny TRUE his third base.

TRUE then researches baneling speed and goes for another set of overlord drops, this deals massive, potentially fatal, damage killing thirteen SCV’s and forces Bunny into an attack with his army outside TRUE’s third. Despite good pre splits TRUE’s ling banes overpower the army and force the retreat. At this point the game is strongly in the favour of TRUE, he pushes across the map massacring the workers until Bunny has seven workers. After considering his position for a few seconds he GGs. TRUE wins 3-2.

TRUE’s play throughout the series changed massively as the games progressed, starting out with cheese isn’t crazy, but not something you necessarily expect to see. However, game two was very unlike TRUE. Normally TRUE sticks to ling bane before going into ultras, but in this game he rushes five mutalisks on two bases before teching into roach ravager. This is the complete opposite of TRUE’s playstyle. My opinion is TRUE’s lack of confidence in the matchup meant he played styles and builds which he normally wouldn’t play, and after they didn’t work for two games he reverted to what he knows best, his ling bane style. TRUE showed incredible mental fortitude being able to play from 0-2 down and still take the win.

TRUE is in Code S !

Down 0-2 in a best of 5, TRUE comes back winning the final 3 games against CJ Entus Terran player Bunny in the Code A match this morning.

TRUE stuck to his ling/bane style unlike many Zergs in KESPA even after the first 2 losses would’ve force others to re-evaluate the game plan.

In game 1 at Frozen Temple, his ling/baneling bust failed to do enough damage that the hellbat timing counter sealed his fate.

In game 2 at Dusk Towers, the 2 base spire was scouted by the hellions and he was forced to transition out to roaches against a superior economy of the Terran.

He turned things around in game 3 at Frost, a map returning to the ladder pool.  Bunny mishandled his hellbat rush, not doing any drone damage, and was finished off by massive zerglings / banelings counter attack by TRUE.

In game 4, King Sejong was another resurrected map. Here it was again lings and banelings.  A massive group was ready to go at the Terran natural, while he defended Bunny’s drop.  Bunny was forced to go back but TRUE did enough damage that Bunny was forced to gg.

In game 5 at Lerilak Crest, the Nydus network was used as the aggressive tactic with zerglings and queens..  While it did not do enough damage the first time, the 2nd nydus with banelings evened things out and allowed TRUE to get his 3 base economy at a significantly higher lead over the Terran.  A couple of overlords dropping banelings put his SCV count at 7, so Bunny could never really recover.  After scanning 2 saturated bases, Bunny gg’d out and the comeback was complete.
